Super Smash Bros. Brawl Character Profile #15 Yoshi

First Game Appearance:
Super Mario World - Super NES (1991)

Known For:
His Eggs, his appetite, his island

BIOGRAPHY:
Yoshi’s back and bursting with personality! He can launch consecutive attacks and even smack around enemies below him mid-flight.

Among other things, he can now use his up special move, the Egg Toss, to increase the distance of his jump. That’s enough to earn him a hearty welcome, isn’t it?

The first time gamers heard of Yoshi was when he appeared as a rideable sidekick for Mario after Bowser invaded the friendly green dino's homeland and encased his friends in eggs.It turned out, however, that Mario and Yoshi go back a long way: Yoshi proved himself to be the world's mosttolerant babysitter when he took Baby Mario under his wing-er, tail-and helped his rescue Baby Luigi.Yoshi went on many subsequent adventures, where he put his myriad talents (including eating enemies, launching eggs, and hovering by kicking his legs wildly) to heroic use.Yoshi is a staunch ally of the Mario Bros. and can offen be found joining them for a kart race, a party, or a competitive sport.

Final Smash

<Super Dragon>

It’s tough to know what to call Yoshi—some call him a dragon, others a dinosaur. Some people don’t know WHAT he is.

But whatever you call him, Yoshi’s true power will be seen here!

He’s gotten the oft-mentioned Smash Ball!

W-wings!

He starts spewing out a jet of fire...

But you can also press the button to spit out fireballs!

It feels like, um...beauty and elegance...mixed with clumsiness. Certainly, no one’s ever seen Yoshi like this!

Being able to fly around is nice, as is giving undivided attention to his attacks. Yoshi can live as he likes, for a brief period of time.

Oh, to think it’s already over...

Special Moves

Using Yoshi’s special moves obviously calls for becoming an expert at throwing eggs.

<Up Special Move: Egg Throw>

This is what happens if you just do a normal throw.

If you hold the button down, both speed and distance increase.

If you tilt the Control Stick forward when you throw, the angle of the throw will be more horizontal.

If you tilt the Control Stick backward when you throw, the angle of the throw will be more vertical.

The length you hold the button and the direction you move the stick make all sorts of combinations. If you can master them all, your range of attack will be really huge!

Thiiiiis huge!

<Standard Special Move: Egg Lay>

This move captures your opponent in an egg. Yoshi is pretty scary when he uses his tongue attack.

Schlurrrp!

Pop!

And off into the abyss...

If you get trapped in an egg, you can move left and right to try to avoid falling off edges. Also, you can break out of the egg by tilting the Control Stick back and forth.

However, if you’ve taken a lot of damage, it will be harder to break free. So if you’re taking a beating, you’ve got to be careful of surprise attacks!
